American Museum of Natural History

Sketches done a while ago from the dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History, plus a dinosaur fossil. Drawing animals is a great exercise in realizing the discrepancy from what you think you know and reality. That is to say, I like to think that I could just sit down and knock out a sketch of a lion out of my head, but such a drawing certainly would not match up to the reality of a lion's anatomy, the pattern of its mane, the position of its features, and so on.

  1. I like the elephant - he seems so happy, for a stuffed beast who's been standing around for a 100 years!
